Antonio x Reader: Madrid Café

A storm brewed as a young girl ran down the streets in search of any close shelter or somewhere where she could stay at for a while. Classes had already ended, and the school was locked, but (Name) seemed to have lost her keys once again, having no access to her house. 

Her father was coming home late due to over time at work, while her mother was out buying groceries. Her friends were another option, but their houses were too far for her to travel by feet. Poor (Name) had already used all of her bus fare, so she was stuck in the rain being soaked with no umbrella.

(Yes, (Name) had forgotten her umbrella too.)

Today wasn’t quiet her day at all now was it?

She saw a flicker of light at the corner of the block, seeing that it was from the new café that had just coincidentally been opened recently in the day. 

Oh she finally had some luck!

Her hopes had arisen as she sprinted her way to the building, careful not to slip on the water that had derived from the terrible storm. Splashing large puddles from the ground, only making the bottom of her pants more wet and dirty, as she let out an annoyed groan.

It was about time that the girl had finally reach the front of the café. She twisted the edges of her soaking sweater and pants, for water to come out; she pushed the door open, as it was followed by the regular chime of the bell. 

It was that she found this small place by luck that made her smile.

Inside she spotted a fair amount of people, just enough for her comfort level. Not too much and not too little. She spotted some people typing away on their laptops, while some people staying here for a small break or to work on small group projects. There were children sitting by with their parents begging for the treats that had been displayed on the countertop, and a couple happily sharing a drink together. 

(Name) decided that she actually liked this place and thought that it would be routine to visit this maybe once or twice a week. 
 
...Or maybe more..

Her decision changed once she spotted a really attractive Spaniard at the café counter, grinning at her, waving his hand hastily. “Hola!” He beamed, his waving to a halt. 

(Name) only smiled, then made her way to the counter. Might as well just order something here ; 'After all, I might be stuck here for a while..' 

The worker grinned. “Hello again! Welcome to Madrid café, my name is Antonio! How may I help you?”

She thought for a moment, looking over at the display menu above. There was so many things to choose from! 

She twiddled her thumbs, unsure of what to choose from, but the Spanish worker only chuckled, which made her jump up slightly.

“Stuck deciding, I see? Why don’t you try the Café con leche¹? We just made the recipe  today!” He grinned ear to ear, “How about you can be a test-taster and try it?”

She decide on it thoughtfully, before nodding yes.

Antonio cheered happily grabbing a cup, "Alright ma'am! May I have your name please?"

"(Name)"

"(Name).." He mimicked, scribbling it down on the cup with neat cursive. He smiled. "Thank you! I'll call you over when I'm done! Thanks again!" (Name) watched the Spaniard dash right over to the kitchen to prepare her drink. She smiled, letting out a soft giggle as she walked to an empty table by the counter waiting for the beverage. She took the time to once again, look around the café enjoying the homey atmosphere that it had contained.

She hummed a small tune of a romance song, waiting patiently for Antonio, then smiling automatically and the remembrance.  

You can call it love at first sight if you must, but no, it wasn't. Heck, it isn't even possible! But-- (Name) couldn't deny that she took a fancying to the Spaniard ; and she couldn't deny that she thought that he was pretty attractive. He seemed like a nice, cheerful guy too and he liked that about him.

Her thoughts had been stopped when she heard him closing for her. "(Name)!"

The girl smiled, getting up from her seat to the counter. She thanked him, paying the amount, only getting her money back.

"No, no. I'm paying for this." He winked.

"No, I can't possibly-" 

"It's alright! Think of this as a thank you for coming here!" He handed (Name) the drink, smiling brightly as he took money out of his own pocket into the register.

She smiled saying "Thank you" as well, taking a sip of the beverage, Antonio eying her carefully. (Name) gasped taking another sip of the coffee, drinking it absolutely delighted ; Antonio brightened up. "So I'm taking that you like it, right?"

She grinned. "Yes! Much better than I thought it'd be!"

"I'm glad you like it, chica!" Antonio said proudly. He watched as (Name) had gulped down her drink, and chuckled at the disconsolate look on her face when she finished everything from the cup. He received a text from her mom telling her that she was home, and wasn't locked out of the house anymore. She smiled sadly then threw away the now-empty-cup in the trash thanking the Spaniard worker again, telling him that see'd come back again to try more beverages that they sold. Antonio laughed, thanking her back as well.

She waved, saying a happy "Goodbye!" exiting out the door, while Antonio watched her, waving back sadly, hearing the door shut. He rested his chin at the head of his palm, sighing blithely.

'Come back soon, (Name).'

Just as (Name) had predicted, she did visit the café on a daily basis. Her and Antonio had grown close to her surprise, and know each other just as well as they could see right through them. They considered each other as best friends, although (Name) definitely wanted it to be more. (She sure hoped that they weren't friend-zoned!)

The cheerful girl entered the same café happily, hearing the same, usual chime of the bell. Antonio immediately took a glance at the door, his face brightening up immediately. "(Name)!"

She smiled making her way to the counter, feeling lucky that there wasn't a line. Antonio gave the same grin. "The usual right?"

(Name) nodded. "Yup, the usual!" 

Antonio nodded, then raced of to the kitchen.

She smiled, sitting in her usual seat closest to the counter, tapping her fingers on the table aimlessly, waiting patiently. This was routine. Her arriving at the café, getting her usual order, then both of them would find themselves conversing amicably. Because of a small amount of people visiting, both Antonio and (Name) woul have a lot if free time to talk to one another, and each conversation pulled them closer and closer.. 

Plop!

She blinked as Antonio delivered the drink to her. She looked at her friend who had already rushed in the kitchen, noticing some red on his cheeks. (Name) chuckled at the sight then picked up her cup only to see a scribbled message in the cup.

I feel like such a coward writing this out instead of saying this to you! But..
Will you go out with me?

And with instinct (Name) made her way to the counter, calling out a happy "Yes."
